a good 'ole american memorial holiday.

the wednesday before memorial day weekend, my little brother steven called to see if we wanted to join him and our cousins roxanne & adam at "the river" for the holiday, and since we weren't headed to coronado island, we decided to take the plunge.

we packed up on friday afternoon and hit the road that night for the colorado river, just outside of lake havasu. we arrived just after 11 p.m. and walked into a full blown party. not just a house party, but we're talking legit DJ equipment with insanely loud speakers, beer pong and what felt like the entire neighborhood at our cousin's house right on the water. yup, we were officially staying at the party pad. it was awesome. our cousins adam and roxanne are friends with the whole community and everyone was super nice. we dove right in and had a total blast.

saturday kicked off perfectly with a buggie ride to the neighborhood club house for greasy breakfast sandwiches and coffee (or screwdrivers and white russians for some) before a full day on the beach. it felt like the perfect way to spend the memorial day holiday and kick-off summer... boats, beaches, wave runners, vodka slushy drinks & spritzers, ladder golf, fruit, bumpin' tunes, patio dance parties, carne asada tacos and family.

but the next time we went out, danny forced me to drive and i liked that a lot better than just gripping onto him for dear life. i actually got a little brave and was pushing 60mph and catching some air.}

an island holiday.

ahhh... hello, holiday weekend. i'm so happy you're here. sadly, i'm totally under the weather but hoping to kick this bug to the curb so i can fully enjoy my multi-day vacay.

in year's past, we've always been on an island - coronado island in san diego. not happening this year, but we're hoping the tradition will continue again next year... hint hint soon-to-be mr. & mrs. q.

as i wind down the workday and gear up for a few days off, i can't help but dream of a real tropical vacation.

during the computer clean-up i came across an itsy bit of footage from our trip to the virgin islands back in january. sadly it isn't much, but i put it all together to make a tiny 2-minute video. it's just enough to take me back to those glorious five days.

happy memorial day weekend
it's only supposed to be in the low 90's in phoenix.
that's super awesome weather for us desert folks.

belated mother's day celebration.

last sunday we got the fam together to celebrate the phoenix moms postino style. a sunday brunch with plenty of bruchetta, beer, wine, sangria & tammie coe cupcakes for dessert. it was miss makaela's first visit to postino and of course she stole the show. she's one of those babies that makes you think "hey, i could do this. this isn't that hard." in fact, it was danny was singing that tune while she was at our house so i decided to let him tend to her at the restaurant. don't get me wrong, she's soooo good, but at 15-months she's definitely mobile and wants to cruise. after about 10-minutes of her squirming to get off danny's lap and him having to follow her around the restaurant to keep her entertained while his beer sat on the table getting warm - his tune changed again :)

checking out the live music and bouncing along. p.s. it's time for a hair appointment. holy roots.

that's the face of a squirmer dying to be released and set free. and the face of my husband "will you take her?"

 our serious little lady.

 wine glasses & sippy cups.

apparently when vicky & joe see bratty kids out in public they joke that those will be mine & danny's kids getting into everything (rude! but yes, we will let our kids be kids and explore). well, look at this joe... your perfect angel wanting to crawl all over the table at brunch. humph.

$5 pitchers kept danny and i there long after everyone else left. happy sunday funday
